6TH MARCH 2025 | Woodfine Wines X Farmyard - An introduction to natural wine and biodynamic viticulture
We are very excited to be joined at The Ghost At The Feast by Richard, owner and winemaker at Woodfine Wines, for an evening of tasting and learning about the natural and low-intervention wines we sell and how, by voting with your glasses, we can support more sustainable viticulture and winemaking practices.
Richard’s beautiful, wild vineyard is in the Chilterns and one of a handful (stay tuned for visits from others!) farming biodynamically in the UK. Organic certified, zero additions, this is about as natural as you get and – most importantly – his wines are beautifully balanced and as alive as his vineyard. Teaming with wildlife: chickens weeding, owls and other birds on pest patrol, and insects and spiders enriching the soil, Richard will tell you about how he left a geology career (at a well-known oil company) in pursuit of restoring nature to this piece of land.
Richard’s wines and his simple, yet amazing wine set up – think rescued and repaired barrels – are an inspiration and the perfect way to fall head first into English natural wine. We could talk with him all day about greenwashing, transparency, true sustainability, not to mention how supermarkets are selling UPFs disguised as wine! Kate and Ben will also be talking about their own very new winemaking journey, why transparency is so important, all while we enjoy Richard’s wines alongside snacks from the Farmyard kitchen.
Expect buckets of passion, good wine, and a healthy dose of environmental outrage.
